Centering Survivors.
Building Power.
Transforming Communities.

Our Mission

Healing to Action is ending gender-based violence by building the leadership and collective power of the communities most impacted, transforming the narrative of survivors from vulnerable “victims” to powerful leaders in the movement to end gender-based violence.

Who We Are

Founded in 2016, HTA is led by the community most impacted by gender-based violence. Our work centers survivors from Black and brown communities, survivors with disabilities, LGBTQ+ survivors, and survivors from communities historically disenfranchised.

Changing the Narrative

With survivor-leaders at the forefront of our work, HTA is working to transform the current narrative of survivors from “helpless” victims to powerful leaders in the movement.

Our Impact

Since 2016

Three cohorts of survivor-leaders, totaling to 45,

have graduated Healing Generation, our eight-week leadership program that was designed by and for survivors

Gaining national distinction

for putting power back in the hands of survivors to transform the root causes of gender-based violence

Survivor leaders have since then launched an innovative grassroots campaign,

that has shaped how educators, caregivers, and communities see sexual health education as a critical intervention towards preventing gender-based violence for the next generation

Trained over two dozen organizations representing an overall constituency of 400,000 individuals.

Notable past partners include Fight for $15, the Times Up Legal Defense Fund, and one of the largest hospitality unions, Unite Here. Those groups have implemented our practices and tools to support survivors and organize campaigns to fight gender-based violence.

Survivor-leaders are breaking down the silence and serving as life-lines in their communities, connecting with almost 400 survivors and supporting them with referrals.
