Developed by and for survivors in 2018, Healing Generations equips survivors with the skills and resources to combat the root causes of gender-based violence in their communities. Community members co-created the curriculum and program structure.

In the summer of 2026, Healing to Action will hold the fifth cohort of this eight-week leadership program and is currently accepting applications and nominations for up to 20 community leaders to attend the program.

Program participants will gain:

A deeper understanding of gender, sexuality, and gender-based violence;

Communication skills to talk about gender-based violence with friends, family, neighbors, and co-workers;
-
Tools to organize with survivors;
-
Opportunities to advance grassroots campaigns to end gender-based violence; and
-
A support network of diverse leaders from communities across Chicago who are passionate about making their communities safer.

Nominations from community organizations are due March 16, 2026. Applications from interested candidates are due March 31, 2026.

Candidate Criteria
Healing to Action is interested in building a multicultural cohort of communities most impacted by gender-based violence. HTA is seeking to build power across Black, brown, immigrant, disability, and LGBTQ+ communities. Applicants who identify with these communities are strongly encouraged to apply.
Applicants should be interested in:
Joining an eight-week program, and participating at least once a week for eight weeks in summer 2026
Building connections and power across different identity groups, with an openness to learning about different people’s identities and experiences
Engaging their networks of family members, friends, neighbors, and coworkers to participate in grassroots organizing led by them and their cohort
Working collaboratively with other survivors to support grassroots, community-led efforts to address
gender-based violence
Engaging in creative, artistic and healing-centered activities
Learning more about different forms of oppression and how to address them

To nominate a candidate to join Healing to Action’s leadership program after speaking with the candidate please:
